COVID-19 Coagulopathy: Current knowledge and guidelines on anticoagulation

How does COVID-19 affect the blood? Some people with COVID-19 develop abnormal blood clots, including in the smallest blood vessels.

Understanding COVID-19-associated coagulopathy
COVID-19-associated coagulopathy (CAC) is a life-threatening complication of SARS-CoV-2 infection. However, the underlying cellular and molecular mechanisms driving this condition are unclear. Evidence supports the concept that CAC involves complex interactions between the innate immune response, the coagulation and fibrinolytic pathways, and the vascular endothelium, resulting in a procoagulant condition. Understanding of the pathogenesis of this condition at the genomic, molecular and cellular levels is needed in order to mitigate thrombosis formation in at-risk patients. In this Perspective, we categorize our current understanding of CAC into three main pathological mechanisms: first, vascular endothelial cell dysfunction; second, a hyper-inflammatory immune response; and last, hypercoagulability. Furthermore, we pose key questions and identify research gaps that need to be addressed to better understand CAC, facilitate improved diagnostics and aid in therapeutic development. Finally, we consider the suitability of different animal models to study CAC.

People who don’t receive a COVID-19 vaccine are at a higher risk of developing myocarditis and blood clots than the vaccinated.
A lack of COVID-19 vaccination does not mean a person is immune to blood clots, strokes and heart issues such as myocarditis and pericarditis, despite contrary claims on Facebook. Nor is there any evidence the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 is a planned coverup of vaccine-induced injuries. Social media users have claimed to uncover the “biggest elephant the room” by suggesting there are no reported deaths or serious illnesses among those who are unvaccinated (here, here and here).

Eugenicists behind the U.S.’s forced sterilizations during the last century also wanted a border wall. Nearing the end of his first term, on September 18, 2020, Pres. Donald Trump invoked the “racehorse theory” at a campaign rally in Bemidji, MN, to claim that he and his followers had genetically superior bloodlines. “You have good genes, you know that, right?
